Labor Day Weekend Veterans Memorial Bridge and Subway Tour

Includes New Attraction

Cleveland ---On Saturday, September 1, 2007, Cuyahoga County Engineer’s Office, will unveil a new attraction at the final Veterans Memorial Bridge and subway tour for 2007. "With the help of the Flats Oxbow Association, Great Lakes Construction Company, Blaze Construction Company, Euthenics, Fabrizi Trucking and Paving Co. Inc. and Marty Sulzmann & Craig Strong from our office, we were able to obtain a 1947 Presidential Conference Commission (PCC) streetcar," states Robert C. Klaiber, Jr., P.E., P.S., Cuyahoga County Engineer. "This streetcar was air-conditioned and was of an Art Deco design. Also, it is one of the last ones of its kind and is similar to the ones that were once used in Shaker Heights. Originally, it was used in Pittsburgh and currently is on display for visitors to observe, both inside and out." In addition, Buckeye Trolley from Columbus provided the streetcar and Trolleyville USA supplied the rail.

This new addition is simply adding to the allure of the free, self-guided walking tours of the lower level of the Veterans Memorial Bridge, which once served as a major hub for Cleveland’s public transportation. The event begins at 9:00 a.m. and will close at 3:00 p.m. Since this is a self-guided tour, there are no reservations. The entrance and parking are available at the County Engineer’s Bridge Garage, which is located at 2433 Superior Viaduct off of W. 25th Street. Cameras are encouraged and this is an all ages event.
